Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement allows countries to exchange greenhouse gas emissions reduction credits through bilateral or multilateral agreements, to help meet their climate targets (Nationally Determined Contributions). These credits are called Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs). Article 6.2 allows countries to establish their own governance frameworks and policies for cooperation and is not overseen by the UN.
